REALTOR® Benefits and Services

Not all real estate salespeople are REALTORS®. The Code of Ethics (pdf file) of the National Association of REALTORS is universally recognized as the measure of professionalism in real estate. Adherence to the Code is the first great bond between REALTORS throughout the country, ensuring high standards of professional conduct in serving the interest of your clients and customers.

Membership in the REALTOR® organization is part of a three-way agreement with the local REALTOR® Associations, the Illinois Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. The REALTOR® symbol is your key to the wealth of resources, products and services available to you as a member of the REALTOR® organization.

The National Association of Realtors®...

The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, The Voice for Real Estate®, is the world's largest professional association. Founded in 1908, NAR has grown from its original nucleus of 120 to over one million members today. NAR is comprised of REALTORS® who are involved in residential and commercial real estate as brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, counselors and others engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry. The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.

Working for America's property owners, NAR provides a forum for professional development, research and the exchange of information among its members, and to the public and government for the purpose of preserving the free enterprise system and the right to own real property.

Members belong to one or more of some 1,700 local associations/boards and 54 state and territory associations of REALTORS®. Additionally, they can join one of our many institutes, societies and councils to enhance their expertise and network with other professionals globally.

If you're not a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, but you'd like to become one so you can take advantage of all the benefits of membership – including accessing the member ONLY parts of our site, you must first join your local real estate board. Membership in a local association automatically extends your membership to the state association and national association. As a member, you are the voice for NAR – it is your association and it exists to help you increase your business opportunities.

The Illinois Association of Realtors®...

IAR offers a broad array of professional development opportunities through courses, workshops, seminars and conferences that are both accessible and affordable.

Specialized publications such as The DR Exclusive newsletter, Perspective with its housing statistical trends, REALTOR® News and Real Estate Today cover late-breaking developments and provide in-depth examination of particular subjects.

Member services benefits including member service discounts on group term life, whole life, retirement planning, major medical, auto and homeowners insurance, cellular telephone program, group credit card and automobile rental discounts.

The IAR has become a leader in the nation in developing and passing legislation that promotes a healthy climate for property ownership in Illinois. IAR is the driving force in the periodic rewrite of the Real Estate License Law.

The IAR Convention and Trade Exhibition each fall provides information and education on the newest developments in the industry as well as the latest products and services designed to improve your bottom line.
