Salesperson CE Requirements for 2009 Renewal
(SALES LICENSES EXPIRE ON APRIL 30, 2009)
(All License Renewal Requirements must be completed prior to May 1, 2009.)
If you were licensed as a Salesperson on or before April 30, 2007:
12 hours of CE is required. (6 CORE/Mandatory hours and 6 Elective hours.)
If you were licensed as a Salesperson between May 1, 2007 and April 30, 2008:
6 hours of CE is required. (3 CORE/Mandatory hours and 3 Elective hours.)
If you were licensed as a Salesperson on or after May 1, 2008:
No CE is required.
Broker CE Requirements for 2010 Renewal
(SALES LICENSES EXPIRE ON APRIL 30, 2010)
(All License Renewal Requirements must be completed prior to May 1, 2010.)
If you were licensed as a Broker on or before April 30, 2008:
18 hours of CE is required. (6 CORE/Mandatory hours, 6 Elective hours and 6 Broker Management Hours.)
If you were previously licensed as a Salesperson:
18 hours of CE is required. (6 CORE/Mandatory hours, 6 Elective hours and 6 Broker Management Hours.)
If you were licensed as a Broker between 5/1/08 and 4/30/09 IF NOT PREVIOUSLY LICENSED AS A SALESPERSON:
12 hours of CE is required. (3 CORE/Mandatory hours, 3 Elective hours and 6 Broker Management Hours.)
If you were licensed as a Broker on or after 5/1/09 AND NOT PREVIOUSLY LICENSED AS A SALESPERSON:
6 hours of Broker Management due within 180 days of licensure.
CE must have been earned during the pre-renewal period: 05/01/2008 - 04/30/2010.
The additional 6 hours of Broker Management CE should be earned between 5/1/08 and 4/30/2010.
Continuing Education credit for Broker Courses may apply if the courses are dually licensed. IAR courses are dually
licensed and include credit according to the following: Brokerage Administration (3 Hours CORE); Advanced Principles 2000 (3 Hours CORE);
Contracts (3 Hours CORE); Sales & Brokerage (3 Hours Elective); Appraisal (3 Hours Elective); Finance (3 Hours Elective); Principles Review (No CE Credit).
If the Broker Courses were taken BEFORE 5/1/09 and used as CE Credit for the salesperson's renewal, they cannot be used as credit towards broker's
renewal. Continuing Education earned for IDFPR disciplinary purposes may not be used towards CE renewal.
There is no longer a CE Exemption for licensees who are "Grandfathered".
The only exemption from the CE Requirement are for those licensees that served
in the armed forces during the renewal period, state or federally elected officials,
or active Illinois attorneys.
Retain all original Certificates of Completion for your files. They are your
evidence of satisfactory completion of CE credits in case of an audit.
CE earned for disciplinary purposes may not be used toward your CE renewal requirements.
Recent changes in the Illinois Real Estate License Act of 2000 required the creation of a six-hour course for
the continuing education of Illinois Real Estate Brokers. There is NO "grandfather" provision in the law; therefore,
this course is for all real estate brokerage licensees specifically licensed as real estate brokers in Illinois.
All currently licensed brokers are required to complete this course by the 4/30/08 renewal date. All brokers licensed after
04/30/06 are required to complete this course within 180 days of being licensed.

Broker License To Salesperson License Transfer
If a Broker wants to downgrade to a Salesperson, the following will apply:
There will be a fee of $50 (one year salesperson renewal).
12 hours of CE (6 Hrs. CORE & 6 Hrs. Elective) is required by 04/30/08; for the two years that the licensee was a Broker before the transfer.
The new Salesperson License will then expire on 4/30/09 and requires an additional 6 hours of CE (3 Hrs. CORE and 3 Hrs. Elective)
to be earned between 05/01/08 and 04/30/09.
CE requirements for the repealed "grandfather clause" were issued by the Illinois Department
of Financial and Professional Regulation. According to the Division of Real Estate, the new law requires
that anyone licensed for 15 years prior to January 1, 1992, is no longer exempt from continuing education.
What does this mean? The repealed Grandfather Clause means absolutely no one is exempt. Not even if you
were licensed prior to January 1, 1977.
Code of Ethics Requirements
Realtors® required to complete Ethics Training for Second Cycle - Deadline December 31, 2008.
Between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2008, every Realtor® is required to complete 2 1/2 hours of
Code of Ethics Training. The NAR policy requires that Realtors® take ethics training within given four-year cycles and continue to update their
education in successive four-year periods thereafter. Failure to comply with this required ethics training is a violation of a
membership duty for which the member's primary association will suspend membership until the training
is complete.
PAAR offers Ethics Training throughout the year which will satisfy not only the Ethics requirement but also
qualify for Elective CE Hours. See the PAAR Education Calendar below for more info.

renewal or simply because you want to stay educated.
Remember to choose an Ethics Course as part of your CE. This will meet your NAR
Ethics mandate compliance for the current quadrennial period ending 12/31/08!
Commercial CE: Through the PAAR, the CLS helps you fulfill your license renewal
requirements by providing members continuing education opportunities approved for credit
in Illinois and Iowa.
Homestudy & Online: Attending a live education program at PAAR should
always be your first choice. If you are unable to attend a live class, PAAR also offers
a variety of both Elective and Core homestudy classes as well as online CE packages.
